It is not possible to describe in a few words the constantly evolving ways we get together at Epiphany, whether it be purely social events, fund raising (which is always sociable too) or Christian Education, the incidental benefit of which is getting to meet people in a deeper way.
To find what is coming up, read the monthly Beacon and subscribe to the weekly electronic E-piphanews.
We try to have a wide variety of social events, so some will be suitable for the whole family and some will aim to attract the wider community (for example an Animal Fair or a Spring Flower Fair). Gatherings that have become a regular feature of life at Epiphany include the coffee hour after the 10am service, dinner groups that meet at each other's homes over the winter and spring, and the monthly Lunch Bunch and the annual Auction.
Each year brings a different list of events and study groups under the umbrella of Christian Formation. Some of those available in 2005 included Lent Groups on Keeping Your Cool and The Personal Audit, Praying with Watercolors, a Seder on Maundy Thursday, a presentation of The Elephant's Child, a book study of God's Politics, a video presentation over six weeks on the four gospels and an Advent Quiet Day.
The following message is addressed to those attending one of our services:
Whether you are visiting Epiphany for the first time, searching for a faith community, or already a member here, we extend to one and all a warm and enthusiastic welcome. We gather to celebrate the presence of God, to hear God's Word spoken to us through scripture, to ponder its meaning for our lives, to pray for others as well as ourselves, to give thanks for God's goodness, and to offer our lives anew in Christ's service. We encourage your participation in the Eucharistic Liturgy and the reception of Holy Communion; however, this is a personal choice and not dependent on any particular religious or spiritual orientation.
In order to assist in making your experience a rich and powerful one, we offer the following suggestions:
The Lord's Table is open to everyone. The ushers will guide you to come forward to the altar rail to receive the Sacrament. If you are unable to come forward, please notify an usher and the Sacrament will be brought to you.
When receiving Holy CommunionWe believe that Christ is truly present during the entire service. As you receive the Bread and Wine, please know that you are receiving the outward and visible sign of the Lord's inward and spiritual grace. If you do not wish to receive the Sacrament you are still receiving the presence of Christ throughout the service. Feast upon the Lord with a spirit of gladness and hope, faith and thanksgiving. Then upon leaving this place, bring the presence of Christ with you to those you meet in your daily life. Go with God. Go in Peace. God is peace.
